Public transport

The University benefits from excellent public transport links providing access to numerous destinations up and down the UK for staff, students and visitors.

Discounted Annual Travel Pass

Save money on travel by public transport! The University offers interest free season ticket loans to benefit those members of staff who use the public transport to travel to work.

NEWS - The University is working in partnership with National Express West Midlands to give its staff a 25% reduction (funding 12.5% each) off the cost of a full price bus pass from April 2012. This is a massive 20% extra discount compared to last year.To apply visit the University's Human Resources webpage

Rail

The University is the only UK university to have its own railway station on campus, known as ‘University Station’. The Station is a real asset to the University, making travel by train a convenient option for many.

University Station is only two stops from Birmingham New Street where staff, students and visitors can catch trains to locations all across the country. The journey between the University and Birmingham New Street takes approximately eight minutes. For all timetable information visit www.nationalrail.co.uk

Bus

There are approximately eight local bus services directly serving the University per hour. Numbers 61, X62, 63 and X64 travel to the University’s Edgbaston and Selly Oak campuses via the Bristol Road, while the 636 serves the Medical School and Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The services all run frequently from the city centre.

Numbers 76, 84 and 448 serve the Medical School providing links to areas such as Solihull, Kings Norton, Harborne, Bearwood and Cotteridge. There is a travel information office outside New Street Station, where you can obtain bus timetables and departure point information. Maps can be found throughout the city centre indicating bus stop locations.

Free bus travel

The Selly Shuttle bus service provides a link between the Edgbaston and Selly Oak Campus. This is a free service on production of your student or staff ID card.The purpose of the Selly Shuttle service is to provide a link to staff and students whose work and study requires them to be at both sites across the course of the day/week and into the early evening.  The service is currently being reviewed and a revised timetable can be found to the right of this page. This timetable is subject to alterations during the review process and any changes will be communicated on this page. Please note that this is a limited stop service and the bus will only stop at the designated stops on the timetable.

In addition to this service the University provides students with subsidised travel on shuttle buses which route between the Edgbaston campus and the student residences. The timetable for these services can be viewed here

Park and ride

There are a number of local train stations that provide car parking and direct links to University Station.
